What has gone wrong with the world? China earthquake, Myanmar Cyclone Nargis and most recent, volcano eruption in Chile forcing villagers to abandon near to 500 dogs and cats with no one except the militaries to feed them. This is such a dramatic situation for all especially for our neighbouring country, Myanmar. Up to date, 31,900 have lost their lives with expected numbers to soar. Scores of people have no place to sleep, some are even forced to drink polluted water with corpses and debris all mixed together. Aduh, kesian sangat..i dont know how or what will happen to me if ever i'm in their shoes. Not to mention losing their loved ones.
Myanmar authorities are still reluctant to accept international aid, but Malaysia is in standby mode, in case their assistance is needed. How could Myanmar's government claimed they do no need such assistance, so stupid not accepting help when its country is clearly in a state of emergency? How much more selfish can they be? gosh..and that is what i call stupidity at its best.
However, on contrary, i am somehow skeptical with Malaysian government/private institutions as well. And this is why. A friend to a friend works with Media Prima TV# under Corporate Event, her duties include handling Bersamamu TV#... On her first day at work, she was asked to produce 2 whole years of Bersamamu financial report. But, here's the funny thing. There isnt any. NOT a single black and white of the financial report has been written down nor any records saved. She was clueless and wondered where have all the money gone to. Who, where, when, how does the the receivers received, no one could answer. That is the MAJOR reason i never sms to all those 32888 or 32777 or whatever ' SMS ke...'.
I believed more in donating tangible stuff. Something they can use. I dont know about you, but i think Malaysian government overlooked not donating pads, bras and panties to women, even pantyliners. Do they expect women to wear the same panties for the whole week? Ok, that's gross. All that has been written down in the press is food, tents, blankets, pills..yada yada..but what about the small little things like what i've mentioned? Wont u agree with me, people need toothbrush, toothpaste..facial wash, soaps to clean themselves up? Dont tell me they dont. During tsunami 4 years back, a friend donated dozens of pads to the victims which i think is a good move. Stop piling all those baju tak pakai and donating it to them. It will end up jadi lap kaki. Itulah mentaliti orang Malaysia..For the sake of donating, they piled up all the rotten t-shirts, 200 years old pants to the victims. Ended in mountains of sampah-sampah baju orang tak sudi nak pakai.
I had a short chit chat with my mum about the issue. I really wanna lend a helping hand, but haven't a clue how to do so. Hmmmm...

These are trying times.
And let's just hope that whatever happened to the donations, the people who need them are getting enough help, regardless.
Acom: im with you
Join your local rotary club. you bring 9 friends with you and form a rotract; apprentice rotarian =)
Any rotarian member would be happily to sponsor u guys.
Im not sure how the bersamu sms system works but normally the other sms programmes work like this..... 50% will go to the service provider i.e celcom/digi/maxis. 10% will go to the infrastructure provider which in this case is the server company which host the programmes and control the gateway; process the sms and control the flow of sent and received sms(sms traffic controller) and another 40% goes to whoever the creator/host of the programmes wants. No matter how they adjust the percentage.. the donation will never reach 100%. Same goes with the traditional donation, money will not be transferred through bank as they have to bring the donation physically to the disaster sites. Air Tickets, accomodation, transportation will be cut from the donation, logically =)
It's understandable, tapi sometimes the portion taken to accommodate air tickets, transportation and what not is so much more than that is contributed to the victims. The most annoying part, keluar masuk tv si polan A si polan B donated rm50k lah, rm20k lah..for the sake of publicity..hellloo?? that is not how we show our sincerity kan..nak derma tu, derma je lah..btw, u know so much..google again or salt? hehe
To answer your question, it's pay back time for mother earth. She's acting out against us because we've been damaging her for so long :( I wouldn't be surprise if one of these days we get hit too.
Hehe, but if you add more zero(s) to your donation you have to prepare a larger than life 50 times size replica of the cheque. shake hands+smile+pose... wait for your nice picture in tomorrow's newspaper =)
kambengjantan : that's what i meant..nothing is that sincere these days
